In an instant, everything changed
Like thousands of other aspiring designers heading down the surface pattern path, I found Bonnie! And I found her at a time when I most needed her. Having recently lost my partner and soulmate, I found myself in a very unfamiliar place. I had to rediscover who I was as a single person again in my early 50s. Who was I and where did I fit in to the big wide world as Sharron.
Then I discovered Bonnie Christine and her annual Immersion course and a light bulb went on. How I came across her, I can’t actually remember but I do remember when I signed up to do the course, thinking “I think this is what I am meant to do now”. I had no idea that two years later, I would be launching a website, have designed over 100 patterns (some will never see the light of day!), printed a range of wrapping paper, and be writing blogs on how to be a surface pattern designer.
But I also really want to write about rediscovery. How as we enter into our fifties, we start to wonder “have I done my dash, or is there something else I should be doing? Do I even have time to give something new a go or should I just be grateful I’ve got here relatively unscathed?” The old saying ‘it’s never too late’ is only true if you actually take the bull by the horn and give it a good shake to see what falls out. And I’m here to tell you, keep shaking because you just never know where the bull will take you!
So stay tuned my friends as we take the bull for a ride together!
